Klum: The ball is either IN or it's OUT
New York—Perhaps Heidi Klum could expand her role from T-shirt designer to replay challenge host at the 2009 U.S. Open by introducing the point challenges that appear on the Jumbotron.
It could go like this:
Scene: James Blake leads Donald Young 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, 3-4 when the righty sends a crosscourt deep to Young’s backhand, just out of reach on the sideline; Young raises his arm, challenging the “safe” call.
Umpire Norm Christ in the chair: "Young is challenging the call."
All eyes turn to Jumbotron.
On screen, the U.S. Open challenge graphic appears with Klum’s mischevious smile in the middle.
Heidi Klum: “The ball is either IN or it’s OUT. Let’s see…” (Klum smiles, and turns her head as if to watch the computerized graphic of the ball landing. Her head watches from top right corner.)
The crowd tracks the ball, it lands in.
Heidi Klum: "Congratulations, the ball is IN," or "I’m sorry, the ball is OUT."
Then, at the end of the match, Klum's visage could appear on the screen with these messages:
"Congratulations to the winner! You are IN. You have advanced to the next round of the U.S. Open."
"I'm sorry. You are OUT. Auf wiedersehen."
