Guide to Wimbledon coverage

Here's a guide to where to catch Wimbledon from the west side of the pond.

HSBC presents Wimbledon 2009 at Rockefeller Center
The closest, most authentic Wimbledon experience is promised in New York City, Monday through Friday of the first week. Jim Courier and Jennifer Capriati will play each other on a grass court while Luke Jensen emcees. The Wimbledon matches will be broadcast live and there are fun and games, including a Prince-sponsored contest (click for details).

ESPN 2 (6/22-7/5)
Patrick McEnroe and Mary Carillo head the ESPN2 broadcast of nearly 100 hours.
ESPN2 will begin day-long live programming when the first ball goes into the air Monday, June 22, and continue daily through Sunday, July 5, with a recap of the Gentlemen’s final.  ESPN2 will present at least 95 hours, with four additional hours on ESPN (see note below).  Each weekday, ESPN2’s live coverage will begin at 7 a.m. ET, with:
  • extensive live coverage of matches, including all-day coverage the first week;
  • one Ladies’ and one Gentlemen’s semifinal (July 2 and 3, respectively);
  • plus a one-hour SportsCenter at Wimbledon aired immediately following NBC’s coverage of the Ladies’ (Saturday, July 4 at 2 p.m.) and Gentlemen’s (Sunday, July 5 at 3 p.m.) championships.

UPDATE 6/22: ESPNEWS Adds Live Morning Show During Wimbledon
Starting Tuesday, June 23, at 10 a.m. ET, ESPNEWS will televise a live half-hour Wimbledon program with highlights, live look-ins to matches and post-match press conferences, along with other sports news.  The program will complement ESPN2’s extensive day-long coverage which starts at 7 a.m., and will continue until Friday, July 3.  The extended coverage from Wimbledon will continue throughout the day on ESPNEWS.

DIRECTV (6/23-27)
The satellite provider has partnered with ESPN to offer its Mix Channel for Wimbledon, which allows viewers to watch anywhere from one to six matches simultaneously on one 'mix' channel. Channels within the Wimbledon presentation include a channel devoted to the men's draw, the women's draw, live scores and recent results.

Tennis Channel
Host Bill MacAtee will present Wimbledon Primetime each evening with highlights from the day's play, interviews and more in 40 hours of original coverage. The show follows
ESPN2's live day-long coverage.

NBC (6/27-7/5)
The women's final and the men's final on July 4th weekend will be previewed with coverage starting June 27. The Breakfast at Wimbledon final matches both begin at 9 a.m.

ESPN360.com
More than 650 hours of broadband coverage are available on this site, which is accessible only through certain online providers.
Wimbledon Central:  ESPN.com will again feature Wimbledon Central, a dynamic content application that will feature the official live scoring for all matches throughout the tournament. Additionally, Wimbledon Central will be available for the first time on the ESPN Mobile Web site.  

  • ESPN Mobile Web and ESPN MVP:  Fans will again be able to follow all the action throughout the championship via ESPN’s industry leading mobile Web site and through the signature ESPN MVP application on Verizon wireless. 
  • Wimbledon Archives:  in the days leading up to Wimbledon past Wimbledon matches (full and condensed) will be available on-demand through ESPN.com and ESPN360.com. 

    Wimbledon Live (not available in U.S. or Canada)
    Live online streaming of six matches via official tournament website. A day pass for $9.99 allows 24 hours of access and an all-tournament pass costs $29.99.

    Radio Wimbledon

    This is the official tournament radio feed via the Internet. There are three channels: One is the general news, and the others are play-by-play for Centre Court and for Court 1. Fans walking to the tournament from the tube stop or lining the street in the queue outside the All England Club listen to Radio Wimbledon as its broadcast from speakers, hanging aloft on telephone poles, along the street lining the tournament.

      I wish Pam Shriver would quit contradicting Brad Gilbert. It is clear from the results of Brad's analysis that he knows what he is talking about. Pam seems to be trying to upstage him for some reason.
